Jose Rizal University outplayed San Sebastian in the endgame to win, 68-62, in the NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Tey Teodoro ended his drought in the second half with a crucial 3-pointer that gave the Heavy Bombers a 63-59 cushion with 1:14 left.

“Basta sa isip ko kailangan manalo kami,” said Teodoro on his big basket.

Teodoro had 18 points, 15 coming in the first half.

“Down the stretch, our defense was there. Big shot by Tey Tey on top,” said JRU head coach Vergel Meneses.

Meneses was more relieved than pleased with the Bombers’ win with it being only the team’s third in seven outings after being billed as one of the favorites heading into the season.

“Kulang sa effort. We cannot figure it out. Like for example sa mga coaches sa mga pagkukulang namin kung meron ba and siguro yung players pinepressure nila yung mga sarili nila and lack of effort,” Meneses said.

Ryan Costelo shot 18 points for the Stags, who have now lost seven in a row after winning over College of St. Benilde in their opening game.

A 3-pointer by Regille Ilagan kept San Sebastian in the game, 65-62, with 22.1 ticks left before Gio Lasquety buried two free throws eight seconds later to put the Stags away.
