TWO TEAMS mentored by one coach collide in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference tonight.
But coach Roger Gorayeb need not pick between National University and San Sebastian as his deputies will call the shots in the Group A action at 6 p.m. at Philsports Arena.
Gorayeb, who’s also currently on vacation leave, coaches the Lady Bulldogs in the UAAP and the Lady Stags in the NCAA.
Both teams look to bank on varsity standouts when the Lady Bulldogs start their quest for another crown while the Lady Stags vie for the solo 2-0 lead.
“We’re really relying on Grethcel (Soltones),” San Sebastian deputy Clint Malazo said of the two-time NCAA Most Valuable Player, who also copped the league’s top individual honors with Bali Pure just last conference. “If Grethcel doesn’t get her rhythm, it will be hard for us to score.”
In Group B, University of Santo Tomas also opens its bid versus San Beda at 4 p.m.
Soltones delivered on opening day where she unleashed 20 points in the Lady Stags’ disposal of Perpetual Help, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22.
The Lady Bulldogs hope to neutralize Soltones’ firepower with Jaja Santiago, Jasmine Nabor, Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas and Filipino-Japanese rookie Raisa Sato.
