UST preys on San Beda in V-League debut
University of Santo Tomas preyed on San Beda, 27-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, to open its campaign in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference with a resounding win Wednesday at Philsports Arena.
An unfortunate service error on the side of the Red Spikers gave the Golden Tigresses the win.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Tigresses head coach Kung Fu Reyes is looking to use the preseason as his proving ground for his team who has high schoolers Eya Laure and Magie Laure as guest players.
UST, with the beginning of the K-12 System, doesn’t have any new recruits, giving Reyes the chance to also field players from his Team B in the lineup.
“Lahat nag-a-adjust, kasi ang composition ng team, yung iba nagbabalik and yung iba bago,” said Reyes. “Kaya kami nandito para sa exposure and yung learning namin throughout tumaas.”
Article continues after this advertisement“Binibigyan namin ng chance yung iba na makapaglaro, maramdaman kung pano ang nasa loob, para makita kung sino ang may potential. Marahil yung Team A ng nakaraan hindi mag deliver, tapos yung mga nasa Team B mag-deliver.”
UST had the luxury of the sister-duo of EJ Laure and Eya Laure who spearheaded its hunt.
EJ had 18 while little sister Eya had 17 points for the Golden Tigresses.
San Beda’s guest player Janine Marciano led the 0-2 Red Spikers with 18 points.
