V-League: San Sebastian sends Ateneo to 0-2 start

San Sebastian blanked struggling Ateneo in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, Saturday at Philsports Arena.

Ateneo is still winless in the preseason tournament, dropping to 0-2 while the Lady Stags climbed to 2-1.

San Sebastian completed a 15-1 run in the third set to sweep Ateneo.

Reigning NCAA MVP Grethcel Soltones had a game-high 16 points while Denice Lim added 12.

“We just hung in there and played tough,” said Soltones, also the MVP of the recent Open Conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

“We made some adjustments coming off a loss to NU. We played better this time and showed some toughness on the floor.”

Julianne Samonte led the Lady Eagles, who played without Jho Maraguinot, with 10 points.

Michelle Morente and Ponggay Gaston added nine points apiece for the Lady Eagles who will start its life without Alyssa Valdez.
