Olympics: Diana Taurasi breaks own record for most 3-pointers

Carmelo Anthony just became the top scorer in US men’s basketball Olympic history, and his fellow American Olympian, Diana Taurasi, has broken a record of her own.

Top of the charts: Anthony now top scorer in US history

The WNBA superstar’s stellar outside shooting was on full display on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), as she broke the US women’s basketball Olympic record for most three-pointers in a game with six.

The Phoenix Mercury guard torched Serbia from beyond the arc, hitting 5 in just the first half en route to 25 points in just 23 minutes, as the Americans cruised to a lopsided 110-84 victory.

Taurasi also tied the previous record, which was already hers to begin with, by drilling five 3’s Sunday (Monday in Manila) in a blowout 121-56 victory over Senegal at the Youth Arena.

The 34-year-old markswoman has been shooting the lights out in Rio de Janeiro so far, and could have easily added to her totals if not for the blowout nature of the game, which kept her on the bench for much of the second half.

The 12-year WNBA veteran is no stranger from downtown, connecting on 2.8 3-pointers on 36.7 percent shooting throughout her career.

Much like their Team USA men’s basketball counterpart, the woman’s squad is also a heavy favorite to win the gold.  Khristian Ibarrola
