LOYOLA Meralco and Kaya seek to step up their title push when they battle lower-ranked foes today in the United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Sparks clash with struggling Stallion at 4 p.m., after Kaya battles a Forza side that started the second round with back-to-back losses.
Loyola crushed Forza, 5-1, last Saturday with Phil Younghusband scoring twice and Kouichi Belgira, Jinggoy Valmayor and Alvaro Castiella also on the scoresheet.
But they will be facing a Stallion side that is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2-2 draw with 10-man Laos last Sunday.
Stallion has 21 points from 12 matches, but its stock took a blow last week when coach Ernie Nierras’ side conceded twice in the second half against Laos last week despite holding a man advantage for the entire match.
Repeat win
The Sparks prevailed over Stallion, 3-1, in their first round meeting and repeating will go a long way in coach Simon McMenemy’s charges title chase.
With 27 points, the Sparks are seven points behind Global, which plays Laos tomorrow.
Kaya is seeking a follow up to its 1-0 win over JP Voltes that allowed coach Chris Greatwich’s side to climb up to fifth after improving to 24 points last week.
Forza is gunning for just its fourth win in a season where it has already lost nine matches.
