F2 LOGISTICS will go for the juggernaut but Foton is expected to put up a big fight in today’s Game 2 of the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference women’s volleyball title series at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Cargo Movers are holding a 1-0 buffer in the best-of-three affair after scoring a hard-earned 25-20, 25-14, 9-25, 20-25, 15-10 triumph Thursday night.
But that win also showed flaws in their armor after they allowed the Tornadoes to climb back from a two sets to none deficit and put them in jeopardy.
“We tend to lose focus especially in the third when we started with errors, but at least in the fifth set we showed our maturity,” said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus.
A win in the 2:30 p.m. match will give the Cargo Movers their first ever title.
But Foton is expected to make adjustments after coach Vilet Ponce de Leon held a prolonged heart-to-heart meeting after Game 1.
“My players know everything, we prepared for everything in practice,” said De Leon. “So in the end it’s all up to them right there on the court.”
She said Foton tried to match F2 Logistics’ fast-paced game in the fifth set instead of holding down the tempo like it did in the third and fourth frames.
“It’s as if we are also in a hurry because F2 was playing fast,” De Leon said. “We forgot what made us successful against them which is to play our own type of game on our own pace.”
Foton, the 2015 Grand Prix champion, will also have to deal with the power-charged serves of F2 which caused trouble in the Tornadoes’ reception as they made just 41 as against the Cargo Movers’ 53.
De Jesus will lean once more on his star-studded lineup that includes Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Ara Galang, Aby Maraño and Cha Cruz.
On the other hand, De Leon will bank on championship poise and a balanced roster led by Jaja Santiago, Cherry Rondina, EJ Laure, Angeli Araneta and Rhea Dimaculangan.
