FRESH from big wins, San Sebastian College and Technological Institute of the Philippines fight for a quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference Monday.
“It’s a good momentum going into our next game,” said San Sebastian deputy Clint Malazo after the Lady Stags rose from a 10-23 third-set deficit to stun Ateneo in straight sets.
Both the Lady Stags and the Lady Engineers go for a third triumph in four games at 4 p.m. at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The two teams stand behind virtual quarterfinalist National University (2-0) in Group A.
Also seeing action from the same group are winless Ateneo and Perpetual Help, with both vying to stay in contention at 6 p.m.
In Group B, University of the Philippines (3-0), Far Eastern U (2-0) and University of Santo Tomas (2-1) already secured quarterfinal berths.
Malazo said the Lady Stags must again ease the load of last conference’s Most Valuable Player Grethcel Soltones.
While Soltones starred anew with 16 points, Denice Lim (12 points) and Joyce Sta. Rita (nine points) stepped up in the Lady Stags’ tripping of the Lady Eagles, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.
“She’s been playing consistently well,” Malazo said of Lim. “We will need her to take some of the pressure off Grethcel.”
The Lady Engineers also aim to build on their 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 drubbing of Perpetual Help, where they fired a whopping 21 aces.
In men’s action, NU (2-0) shoots for the solo Group A lead versus La Salle (1-1) at 12 noon in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2.
Emilio Aguinaldo College (0-2) and San Beda (0-2), meanwhile, gun for a first victory in the Group B match at 10 a.m.
