Durham’s 55 points not enough to lift Bolts

Allen Durham could say that he gave his all for Meralco in a 126-123 defeat to GlobalPort in double overtime on Sunday.

After all, his 55 points, 14 rebounds and six assists gave the Bolts a golden opportunity to steal the game despite the team’s poor effort in the first half against the Batang Pier who are looking for their first win.

But that is not the case for his other teammates as their poor start proved to be the team’s undoing as the Bolts fell to an even 3-3 standing in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

“I think our focus has got to be there. Every team in this league can beat anybody on any night and you got to be ready to play. In the first half, we weren’t ready to play,” he said.

Because of its flat start, Meralco failed to get its gears going and fell behind by 14, 55-41, early in the third before the bench took charge and willed the team back in the game late.

Durham noted that the huge second half fightback was truly something to build on for the Bolts.

“If we would have played both halves that way, maybe the outcome would have been different,” he said. “But the outcome is what it is. We know we got to put 48 minutes together and not just in the second half.”

“It’s a tough loss. This is a game that we had to have to try to move up in the standings but we started off slow and that’s what really held us back in this game.”

Meralco returns to action on Wednesday against Blackwater.
