Usain Bolt is by far one of the most decorated Olympians of all time, but if his mother would have her way, he wants him to accomplish another goal—finding himself a “Mrs. Bolt.”
“I would hope he’ll settle down, get married and start his family,” Jennifer Bolt told Washington Post on Monday (Tuesday in Manila).
“I know he’ll settle down because he has said it. He told me many times that he’s going to start his family,” the hopeful mother added.
The legendary Jamaican sprinter, who easily qualified Saturday (Sunday in Manila) to move on to the 100-meter dash semifinal, has expressed interest in marriage before. However, it won’t be anytime soon.
“I’ve thought about it, but I know I’m not going to get married before 35, for sure,” Bolt said in a separate report in the Telegraph last month.
The 29-year-old track superstar added that he didn’t want to end up like Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney, who married his high school sweetheart in 2008 when he was just 21 years old.
“Like, Rooney got married so young—all the footballers that are English, as soon as they get really famous they have to get married. And I think it’s unfair to them,” he said.
Bolt admitted that he’s having a hard time grasping the idea of settling down, especially with the amount of interests he gets from women.
“It’s hard for you to stay with one woman because girls are literally just throwing themselves at you,” he said. “You get famous, there’s so much pressure of girls wanting you. And for you to get married at 21, you have not lived one bit.” Khristian Ibarrola
