UFC: Penn eager for third world title shot

Penn returns to action vs Lamas in UFC Fight Night Manila

BJ Penn has been out of the UFC for more than two years but the former two-time world champion doesn’t mind being away from the sport for too long.

He’s, in fact, eager to build a win streak that could potential title shot in the featherweight division.

“I’m excited, I’m the only one out there hunting a third world title,” said Penn Wednesday at Conrad Hotel.

Penn is in the country to promote UFC Fight Night Manila, the second UFC card in the Philippines, where he will take on Ricardo Lamas in the main event.

UFC Fight Night Manila will be Penn’s return fight after his loss to Frankie Edgar in 2014.

“I’m at 145 lbs, I’m gonna go get that belt,” said Penn. “I’m excited to get to a winning streak and this is a great place to do it and I have a great test in front of me.”

Penn is only the second UFC fighter to win championships in multiple weight divisions–welterweight and lightweight—after Randy Couture who won the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles.
