PH Olympic City Clark to rise in 2018

A PHILIPPINE Olympic City that will serve as main hub of Philippine sports will be constructed inside Clark Green City in Pampanga.

This was bared by Philippine Sports Commission chair Butch Ramirez who said yesterday that the construction of the complex, worth between P3 to P6 billion, will be a major component of PSC’s master plan for sports.

The construction of the Olympic City will be in partnership with Bases Conversion Development Authority led by president Vince Dizon through Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

It will be ready by 2018 and will host the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

“We are drawing up the master plan and then submit it for approval to President Duterte,” said Ramirez.

Ramirez presided over the press conference along with commissioners Mon Fernandez, Arnold Agustin, Celia Kiram and Charles Maxey, who received their appointment papers from Malacañang last Thursday.

The funds will come from the P1 billion savings of the previous PSC administration as well as from the profits of Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philsports Arena in Pasig and other PSC-owned facilities in Baguio City, Muntinlupa and Quezon City.
The Olympic City will have training and competition venues, centers for sports science and the planned Philippine Sports Institute.

“We feel that the missing link is sports science,” said Ramirez. “We need sports nutritionists, sports psychologists and sports physiologist. We are mandated to make sure Filipino athletes have the best training areas.”
