V-League: Ateneo nails last quarterfinals slot, ousts TIP

Ateneo gained a measure of revenge after booting out TIP, 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 in a playoff for the last quarterfinals slot in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference Monday night at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Michelle Morente paced the Lady Eagles with 21 points, 18 coming from hits and two service aces, to secure the team’s seat in the round-robin quarters.

Bea de Leon got 15 markers, while Ana Gopico added 13 for Ateneo.

The Lady Eagles recovered from a first set loss and swept the next three sets with Jia Morado orchestrating the offense with her 62 excellent sets.

“It was great for us to get a win over TIP just for our confidence,” said skipper Morente. “We worked really hard in training to fix the things we struggled on against them since last we player.”

In the elimination round, Ateneo lost to TIP in five sets, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12.

Alyssa Layug led the Lady Engineers with 14 points, while guest player Mylene Paat had 12 in the loss.
