AN ABUNDANCE of talented fighters and topnotch bouts is expected when Pacific X-Treme Combat launches PXC Philippines events starting June 11 at the Resorts World Manila.
Hoping to cash in on the growing popularity of mixed martial arts, Pacific X-Treme, a Guam-based mixed martial arts event outfit, will be bringing in the finest fighters from Guam, Hawaii, the United States, Brazil, South Korea and the Philippines to pit skills at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World.
The PXC has proven to be a breeding ground for fighters who have made the jump to the premiere Ultimate Fighting Championship, and lead promoter EJ Calvo hopes they can also discover Filipino fighters who have the potential to reach the next level.
“The PXC will send a Filipino fighter to the UFC before the PBA sends a player to the NBA,” said Calvo. “That is our mission.”
The event, PXC’s 24th professional offering, will be staged in partnership with TV5.
“They [TV5] are exactly what we are looking for and exactly like us—aggressive, young and excited about producing mixed-martial arts events and expanding the sport in the region,” said Calvo.
Among the fighters who have appeared in the PXC and have seen action in the UFC are Dan Severn, Jeremy Horn, and Roy Nelson. Cedelf P. Tupas
