Far Eastern University was in dire need of help after its dreams of a sweep in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference came crashing down when National University stopped the Lady Tamaraws in a five-set shocker.
Against San Sebastian, the Lady Tamaraws’ help arrived in the form of a healthy Bernadeth Pons.
FEU’s veteran spiker was fighting the coughs in their loss to the Lady Bulldogs but on Saturday against San Sebastian there was no mention of any sickness.
“Mind over matter na lang sa lahat ng bagay, iniisip ko na kailangan kong mag perform para makatulong sa team,” said Pons at San Juan Arena.
Pons had just recovered from the flu she contracted on Monday, and she was still reeling from its effects on Wednesday’s loss to NU.
Pons labored for 12 points in the NU loss but she put up a game-high 17 points in a three-set win over the Lady Stags as the Lady Tamaraws improved to 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
