Globalport escapes Rain or Shine in first out-of-town game win

After playing catch up for most of the game, Globalport found an opening down the stretch and stunned Rain or Shine, 101-99, Saturday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ibalong Centrum in Legazpi, Albay.

Globalport came away with their third straight win—a first in an out-of-town game since joining the league in 2012 according to PBA head statistician Fidel Mangonon—and tied the Elastopainters at 3-4.

Jay Washington salvaged a nearly wasted possession and put the Batang Pier ahead with a clutch putback with 28 ticks left before Yousef Taha set the final count with a split from the stripe with 3.4 seconds remaining.

FEATURED STORIES

Terrence Romeo dropped 33 points along with five assists while backcourt tandem Stanley Pringle added 16. Import Mario Glover had 18 points and 11 boards.

The Elastopainters, who are still trying to find consistency with the eliminations winding down, had a chance to take the lead or tie the game but couldn’t convert in their final 2 possessions in the dying seconds.

Rain or Shine couldn’t get the momentum to pull away from Globalport through out the game en route to its second straight defeat.

Dior Lowhorn finished with 21 points and eight rebounds in the defeat while Beau Belga added 17 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting clip in 21 minutes of action. Celest Flores-Colina
