Four players were slapped with one-game suspensions following Friday’s heated matchup between fierce rivals San Beda and Letran.
Red Lions’ Jun Bonsubre, and Knights’ Jerick Balanza, Marco Sario, and Chrisantoni dela Peña will miss their respective team’s next game after NCAA commissioner Andy Jao laid down the law on Monday.
Upon further review, Balanza’s unsportsmanlike foul was upgraded to a disqualifying foul after he elbowed Jomari Presbitero in the face during a dead-ball situation with only seven seconds remaining in the game.
The incident triggered the scuffle that saw Bonsubre, Sario, and dela Peña leave the bench to temper the situation.
San Beda won the duel, 83-71 to stay on top of the NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball tournament standings at 11-2, while sending defending champion Letran to its fifth straight defeat and in danger of missing the Final Four with a 5-7 card.
Balanza, Sario, and dela Pena will be unavailable for the Knights’ game against St. Benilde on Tuesday.
Bonsubre, meanwhile, will be sitting out the Red Lions’ crucial clash with the Mapua Cardinals on Thursday./rga
