University of the Philippines clinched a semifinals berth in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference overwhelming San Sebastian Lady Stags in the process, 25-17, 23-25, 25-5, 25-18, Wednesday at Philsports Arena.
Nicole Tiamzon capped off the Lady Maroons’ whipping of the Lady Stags with a down-the-line attack that put UP as the third team in the Final Four.
UP set a record in the third frame when it limited San Sebastian to just five points, the least in the tournament.
Lady Maroons head coach Jerry Yee, however, is not convinced that his team was in total domination of the Lady Stags, saying it was their opponents who lagged behind.
“I don’t see na napaka-dominating namin,” said Yee. “Yung isang set na mababa score nila [San Sebastian], sila yun not us.”
“We played not wanting to lose, pangit yun pero at least somehow motivated kami.”
Team captain Kathy Bersola led the Lady Maroons with 20 points while fellow senior Tiamzon added 13.
Grethcel Soltones and Denice Lim had 15 points apiece for San Sebastian.
