It seems Grethcel Soltones has had enough of carrying San Sebastian on her own.
After the Lady Stags’ embarrassing four-set loss to the Lady Maroons, 25-17, 23-25, 25-5, 25-18, in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference quarterfinals, Soltones said San Sebastian does not have the team play to get to another level.
This is the same San Sebastian team that got the runner-up finish in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament, losing to College of St. Benilde.
“Sa totoo lang wala kaming laro as a team ngayon,” said Soltones Wednesday at Philsports Arena.
San Sebastian has carried the reputation of a being powerful team, but had the notoriety of relying too much on Soltones.
“Sobrang laking problema, yun yung nangyari sa championship nung NCAA. Isa ako sa mga inaasahan ng team, pero di ko kayang ako lang,” said Soltones.
Soltones, together with Denice Lim, had 15 points apiece to lead San Sebastian but it all seemed futile especially when they produced just five points in the third set, the lowest scoring set in the tournament.
She said there was nothing she, or her coach Clint Malanzo, could have done to prevent the team’s collapse.
“Wala, di na ako nagsalita. Hinayaan ko na si coach. Ako wala nang magagawa, si coach wala nang magagawa.”
