Just like in the cheerdance, University of the Philippines showed it’s also a force to reckon with in the ballroom competition that kickstarted the three-part opening ceremonies on Saturday of the 79th UAAP Season 79.
The UP Ballroom Formation Team swept the competition, ruling both the Latin American and standard categories held at the Quadricentennial Pavilion at University of Santo Tomas in Sampaloc, Manila.
Host UST, represented by its Sinag Ballroom Dance Company, wound up in second in both events while De La Salle took home third place in the standard category while University of the East also landed in third in the Latin American.
Only Far Eastern University did not participate in the demonstration sport.
UST came in as the favorite to win the event until UP took its turn and left the audience wanting more.
UP had the complete performance from its mere hair-raising entrances to its spellbinding performances and well-thought exit.
UP also had the most interesting music choices, rocking the packed venue with Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” to taking it slow with Journey’s “Open Arms.”
The competition gave a modern take on a traditional dancesport.
