From garbage man to main man.

Raymar Jose has been thrust to the spotlight as the team captain for Far Eastern U this UAAP Season 79.

And the 6-foot-4 forward expressed his readiness for the task as coach Nash Racela banks on his leadership in the Tamaraws’ title retention bid.

“Sa akin binigay ni coach yung tiwala na i-lead yung team. Nakikinig naman sila sa akin,” he said. “Maraming nawala sa amin pero tiwala naman kami sa system ni coach.”

Jose understands that it’s a tall task for FEU to compete this year. After all, most of its core players bannered by Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia all saw their collegiate careers end after the Tamaraws hoisted last season’s men’s basketball trophy.

But he learned a lot from his old teammates and he eyes to put those lessons to work this year for FEU.

“Yung hard work nila, doon ako natuto na mag-usap-usap at mag-sacrifice as a team. Yun ang gusto ko ipakita sa team, leading by example,” he said.

Though far from being the unanimous favorite this season, Jose knows FEU will still do its best to compete game after game, the same way it did last year.

“One game at a time kami. Di pa namin nakikita yung field at pa la namin natetest kung hanggang saan kami. Pero ready naman kami gampanan yung mga role namin ngayong taon,” he said.
