Day, McIlroy coming for Pradera Verde duel

WORLD No. 1 Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, two of the biggest names in golf at the moment, are coming for an exhibition duel.

Reliable sources said that the showdown between the Fil-Aussie and the Irishman currently ranked No. 5 in the world will be held on Nov. 29 at the brand new Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga.

The same sources said that both are being paid at least $1 million (about P46 million) each to play here.

Part of the contract is a clinic for select junior golfers. Only the minor details of the event are being ironed out and that an official announcement will be made soon.

The arrival of Day and McIlroy is an additional boost to a blockbuster November for golf. The Resorts World Manila Masters will be played at Manila Southwoods on Nov. 10 to 13 with a prize money of $1 million.

Some of the more prominent big-name arrivals here before were Tom Kite and John Daly in 1992 at Southwoods and Tiger Woods in 1998 at Mimosa.
A horde of PGA Tour stars led by Fred Couples and Colin Montgomerie came for the Johnnie Walker Classic at the Orchard in 1995.
