Santiago cites Foton’s lack of consistency in loss to Vietnam

BIÑAN—Foton Pilipinas was cruising against Vietnam when it took the second and third sets in commanding fashion in the second day of the Asian Volleyball Confederation Asian Women’s Club Championship Sunday at Alonte Sports Arena.

Thongtin Lien Viet Post Bank, however, recovered and took the wind out of the Tornadoes in the fourth and fifth sets to escape with a 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 15-18 win.

“I think nagkulang kami, yung consistency wala doon, kailangan pa namin ayusin yun and good experience siya sa amin,” said captain Jaja Santiago.

Veteran hitter Jovelyn Gonzaga echoed Santiago’s sentiments and gave credit to how the Vietnamese recovered in the final two sets.

“Sobrang ganda nung pinakita ng Vietnam, sobrang solid ng defense nila,” said Gonzaga. “Alam naming nagpreparahan yung plays namin, and solid yung blocks nila sa running spikes namin na bala namin.”

Vietnam took 15 points off blocks while the Philippines mustered nine.

Foton Pilipinas also committed errors at the worst time that certainly didn’t help its case.

With the loss, the Philippines slid to 1-1 in Group A while Vietnam is at 1-0.
