NLEX import Henry Walker wanted Garvo Lanete to hit one big shot, the rookie guard gave him more than what he asked for.
Lanete nailed back-to-back triples in the last two minutes, both off assists from Walker, that helped the Road Warriors complete their big comeback in a 111-99 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Sunday.
The former San Beda star said Walker has been encouraging him to keep shooting even in practice.
I was able to repay the trust that our import gave me.
Lanete also knew how significant the game against Rain or Shine is in terms of playoff implications, and it’s only fitting that he had one of the best games of his young career.
He matched his career-high 21 points built on six 3-pointers in just less than 20 minutes off the bench.
“Kailangan din kasi namin ng panalo, crucial yun for us, kapag natalo kami ng isa alanganin na kami so maganda rin yung ensayo namin the past few days, maganda yung practice namin, 24 assists kami so maganda ball movement ng team namin.”
Asked what he told Walker after his two clutch treys, Lanete did the math.
“I just didn’t give you one, I gave you two daggers.”
