NEWLY crowned International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas won’t have to settle for “peanuts,” after all.
Told that Ancajas’ prize money for his upset of Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo late Saturday at the Navy Gym in Fort Bonifacio was a measly $2,700 (about P125,000), Sen. Manny Pacquiao gifted the champion from Panabo, Davao del Norte, with P500,000 on Monday at his Senate office.
Article continues after this advertisement“I took pity on him,” said Pacquiao. “He deserves a bonus for bringing honor to our country.”
The 24-year-old Ancajas said he never thought about his prize money while fighting Arroyo.
