Ateneo, NU try to forge Shakey’s V-L Finals clash

HOPING to show the same on-court swagger, Ateneo tries to pull off an unlikely romp to the Finals in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference tonight.

The Lady Eagles go for an upset of the top-seeded Far Eastern University in Game 2 of the best-of-three semifinals at 6 p.m. at Philsports Arena.

“FEU is a good team, so hopefully we sustain the confidence that we have now,” said Ateneo skipper Michelle Morente.

National U also targets a sweep of University of the Philippines at 4 p.m.

The fourth-ranked Lady Eagles hacked out a 25-14, 28-26, 25-22 Game 1 stunner over the Lady Tamaraws, who struggled without injured standout Bernadeth Pons.

But the Lady Tamaraws believe that Pons, sidelined by an ankle injury, will be ready for action along with Toni Rose Basas and Remy Palma.

The Lady Bulldogs also expect to see Jaja Santiago on the floor even as the
6-foot-5 star had been splitting her time between her school and club teams.

“I know my teammates will need me,” said Santiago, who teamed up with Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas in powering the Lady Bulldogs to a Game 1 triumph, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, over the Lady Maroons last Monday.

The NU men’s team also tries to score a victory over unbeaten Ateneo at the start of the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference championship.

The defending champion Blue Eagles head into the 12 noon match heavily favored after completing a perfect 5-0 run in the elimination round and sweeping rival La Salle in the semifinals. Jasmine W. Payo
