Philippine tennis is bracing itself for a major reboot.
Organizers, sponsors and regional tennis officials attended the recent Philippine Tennis Summit where they all agreed to reorganize the sport that has been in doldrums for several years.
Philippine Tennis Association acting president Randy Villanueva said the attendance alone signified the huge clamor to implement change in Philta.
“We all agree to implement change in Philippine tennis in consultation with the Philippine Olympic Committee and the International Tennis Federation,” said Villanueva.
Among those who showed up was Philippine Sports Commissioner Charles Maxey, representing Chair Butch Ramirez.
Also joining the summit were major sponsors Cebuana Lhuillier led by Philta chair Jean Henri Lhuillier and Palawan Pawnshop headed by Bobby Castro. Their companies fund “80 percent of tennis tournaments in the country.”
Giving their inputs as well were representatives of tennis clubs from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
