Basketball has truly become a global sport and has even reached the icy terrains of some artic regions.

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker has literally taken the game to new heights, after hosting a basketball game atop the Aletsch Glacier on Jungfraujoch mountain in Switzerland on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).

Located some 11,000 feet above sea level, the frosty scenery drew dozens of fans to watch professional European ballers play on a hardwood court built on top of snow.

The 34-year-old Frenchman, clad in a thermal jacket, spearheaded the basketball game featuring  players from the French squad ASVEL Villerubanne and Swiss League pros, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

The monumental event was made possible by Tissot, a Swiss watch-making company who also sponsors the NBA superstar.  Khristian Ibarrola
