YVES Sazon exploded with 45 points, including 23 in the first quarter, to lead Philippine Christian to an 81-71 victory over Manuel L. Quezon Saturday in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities men’s basketball.
Sazon, the Dolphins’ prolific scorer, was in his element, hitting from all angles as PCU ran away with a 36-10 lead and never looked back.
Mike Ayonayon and Fidel Castro contributed 17 and 10 points, respectively, for PCU in the match held at Lyceum of Subic Bay gym.
It was big bounce-back from PCU’s shocking 81-80 defeat at the hands of Philippine Merchant Marine School last Friday. The Dolphins are now at 6-4, while the Stallions slumped to 5-4.
In the other game, Fatima scored its seventh win and practically secured its place in the next round with a 70-52 triumph over New Era.
Miguel Cabrera fired 19 points to lead the Phoenix, who climbed to third place in the standings with a 7-3 card.
Fatima is just behind joint leaders St. Clare and Enderun which carry identical 7-1 cards.
