National U takes another shot at V-League quarters

MANILA, Philippines–Foiled the last time out, National U takes another crack at a quarterfinal berth when it takes on Ateneo Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Toting a 2-4 record, the Lady Bulldogs hope to bounce back from their four-set defeat to the Lyceum Lady Pirates when they battle the Eagles at 4 p.m.

Perpetual Help shoots for its second win against already-eliminated St. Benilde at 2 p.m. carrying faint hopes of making the next round.

The Lady Altas need a win and hope that the Lady Bulldogs drop their match to the Lady Eagles to arrange a playoff for the last quarterfinal berth.

A victory by the Lady Bulldogs will shut the door on the Lady Altas even if Perpetual Help prevails over St. Benilde.

San Sebastian-Excelroof, Ateneo, Adamson, Far Eastern U and Lyceum already booked their slots to the next round.

National U is coming off a 25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13 defeat to Lyceum.

But the Lady Bulldogs can take hope from the fact that some of the chinks in the Lady Eagles’ armor were exposed when Ateneo nearly fell to winless St. Benilde last Thursday.

The Lady Eagles needed to battle back from a set down twice to beat the Lady Blazers, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 17-15.

Thai import Surasawadee Boonyuen fired 28 points, while Angeline Gervacio and Bea Pascual contributed 12 and 11, respectively to lead the Lady Eagles in that victory.
