Mighty PH bows to Shanghai
MIGHTY Sports Apparel Philippines fell short of a second international title, yielding a 78-77 decision to the Shanghai Sharks in the 2016 Merlion Cup basketball finals Sunday in Singapore.
Three free throws by Sharks’ top gunner, former NBA player Jimmer Fredette, with no time remaining gave the Chinese squad the championship. Fredette, who drew a foul from Al Thornton in that play, finished with 41 points.
Mighty Sports was bidding for back-to-back international titles after topping the William Jones Cup in Taiwan last July.
Mighty Sports was supported by the Philippine Basketball Association, Rain or Shine and GlobalPort.
