Ateneo invited its supporters to wear any black clothing or accessory for its upcoming match against De La Salle in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena

A memo from Ateneo President Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ said the supporters are invited to wear black to “express our solidarity with victims of human rights violations and all others struggling to uphold human rights in the country.”

Villarin added in the letter that both the Ateneo and La Salle communities have expressed opposition for the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos “and the growing number of extrajudicial killings/summary executions in the country.”

There have been more than a thousand people killed in the ongoing drug war by President Rodrigo Duterte since he took over the highest executive position in the country back in June, according to the latest update of the Inquirer Kill List.

A similar memo has also made rounds in the La Sallian community.
