THE PHILIPPINES qualified its men’s and women’s teams to next year’s World Bowling Championships after finishing in the top 12 of the recent 24th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong.
Philippine Bowling Federation president Steve Hontiveros lauded the national squad, which has missed the Worlds for the past three years.
“It is a big step toward our goal to bring back the glory in bowling,” said Hontiveros. “Paeng (Nepomuceno) is doing a great job not only teaching but also inspiring the players.’
Nepomuceno said there will be eliminations in November to choose members of the 2017 national pool. From there, another set of eliminations will be held to pick the final six men and six women to the Worlds slated in Kuwait next year.
The last time the Philippines won medals in a combined world championship was in 2003 when the country went home with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
