Lady Bulldogs close in on first round sweep

Three-peat seeking National University zeroed in on a first round sweep after tripping Far Eastern U, 80-69, Wednesday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

JACK Animam had a double-double effort of 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 6-0 and extended their remarkable winning run to 38 games dating back to 2014.

Gemma Miranda was also solid for NU with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Ria Nabalan added 15 points, while reigning MVP Afril Bernardino also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

Adamson, behind Kaye Pingol’s 18 points, bested University of Santo Tomas, 66-62, to finish its first round campaign at 3-4.

The Tigresses and the Lady Tamaraws fell to 2-4 and 1-5 records, respectively.

Valerie Mamaril had 20 points while Angelica Gerner added 11 points and six rebounds for FEU.

Shanda Anies led UST with 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists while Misaela Larosa had 11 points and 11 boards.
