Far Eastern University stretched its winning streak to four games after fending off National University, 78-75, to end the first round of eliminations in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tamaraws moved into solo second place with a 5-2 record behind league-leading De La Salle, which swept the first round at 7-0.

“It doesn’t mean anything. It just puts us in a good position but it doesn’t end here,” said FEU head coach Nash Racela.

FEU blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter with Jay Alejandro leading the Bulldogs’ fightback with 17 of his career-high 31 points coming in the final frame.

NU slid to fourth with a 4-3 mark.
