Valdez unleashes 39 points, tows Customs past Laoag

Alyssa Valdez carried Bureau of Customs on her shoulder all night to lift it just over the jaws of hard-biting Laoag, 18-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9, and score their second straight win in the Shakey’s V League Reinforced Conference at Philsports Arena.

Playing with imports Natthanicha Jaisaen and Kanjana Kuthaisong sitting on the bench due to lack of International Transfer Certificate, Valdez unloaded a league-record 39 points for the Transformers.

“We really played very hard not only for ourselves but also for our teammates who wasn’t able to play,” said Valdez. “It’s the biggest challenge we are facing because we train with them (Thais).

She added: “But in volleyball you have to adjust with what’s given you. And play with what you have.”

BOC coach Sherwin Meneses lauded the rest of the team for rallying behind the hard-spiking, heavy scoring hitter.

“Even at the start we are looking at how to help Alyssa, so maybe the players saw that she needs help and they responded well,” said Meneses.
