New NLEX coach Guiao given full control of road warriors

Yeng Guiao’s stint with  NLEX starting the next PBA season will not deviate in character from the teams the mercurial coach has handled in the past.

That means Guiao is seeking full control of NLEX, so that he can run the team the way he wants, a source close to the coach told the Inquirer.

And it looks like the former Pampanga representative in Congress will get what he wants, with NLEX management throwing that control in along with the three-year deal he signed yesterday afternoon.

Former coach Boyet Fernandez was let go on Tuesday night, after failing to lead the Road Warriors past the quarterfinals.

A winner of six import-laced championships in one of the most documented coaching careers, Guiao also left a three-year renewal at Rain or Shine pending on the table.

But Rain or Shine co-owner Raymund Yu yesterday said that he was both “happy and sad” for his former coach, with whom the team parted ways in the most amicable of ways.
