Vietnam defeats Philippine Army for V-League SEA Club title
MANILA, Philippines—Vietnam Club Vietsovpetro sneaked up from behind and chalked up an 18-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-8 triumph over Philippine Army Sunday to clinch the first V-League Club Invitational title Sunday.
Russian duo Ekaterina Martynova and Anactaxia Trenai teamed up to fish Vietsovpetro out off a two-set deficit to a stunning victory against the Philippines’ top volleyball players.
Trenai, with immense power behind ever hit, pumped in a game-high 24 points while Martynova backed up with 17 points as their squad drew momentum from a big third-set win.
Article continues after this advertisementWith the game seemed headed to an easy wrap-up after quick two-set lead, the Lady Troopers simply lost their commanding control of the game.
Philippine Army even led 23-21 in the fourth set before yielding four straight points that extended the game into a deciding fifth set, which Vietnam ultimately dominated.
Joanne Bunag led Philippine Army on a losing effort with 17 points. Rachel Ann Daquis had 15 while Mayette Carolino added 13 points.
