PETRON clicked with its foreign reinforcements a lot better than Generika and scored a 25-18, 25-23, 25-14, victory Saturday to jumpstart its campaign in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix women’s volleyball at FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Stephanie Niemer topscored with 18 points, while Serena Warner added nine for the TriActiv Spikers. But the important thing was they managed to band together with local teammates.

Ces Molina, the newly installed team captain, and veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas responded with 10 points each for Petron.

“We are very thankful to God because of this first win. It was very good game,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos, who took over George Pascua in the off-season.

Delos Santos said their imports still have a lot of up their sleeves considering they have been around for just three weeks.

“It’s not enough that you see them in video, because you have to know which sets to give them,” added Delos Santos.

Mary Grace Masangkay tossed 15 of Petron’s 17 excellent sets and distributed well among the spikers.

Generika’s Rubie de Leon posted 17 excellent sets, mostly on import Darlene Ramdin who had 15 points for the Life Savers.
