University of the Philippines made quick work of the struggling Philippine Coast Guard, 25-10, 25-19, 25-15, in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference Saturday at Philsports Arena.
Diana Carlos sealed the win for the Fighting Maroons with a simple tip-in as UP improved to 1-1.
UP managed to strike down PCG without UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde and batchmate Mae Basarte.
Molde, who was in gear, was feeling under the weather before the match while Basarte hyper-extended her left elbow.
Despite the win, UP head coach Jerry Yee seemed to be dissatisfied with how the Lady Maroons played and Carlos said it was their “simple mistakes” that irked the coach.
“Kasi meron kaming simple mistakes na siyang nakaka-down sa amin, like mababa set sa middle,” said Carlos who led UP with 19 points. “Gusto niya, hindi naman sa perfect, kundi ma master na namin ginagawa namin kasi paulit-ulit naman.”
Senior Nicole Tiamzon also finished in double figures for UP with 10 points.
Grenlen Malapit had five points to lead the 0-3 Lady Dolphins.
