MANILA, Philippines—Mark De Guzman fired 17 points as National University crushed Olivarez College, 85-57, Saturday to capture the Sandugo Collegiate Development League title at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
With De Guzman, a transferee from St. Benilde on the firing end, the Bulldogs ripped the game wide open early and led by as many as 34 points en route to the title of the tournament’s second edition.
De Guzman went 3-for-3 from three-point range and also dished out three assists and two steals as the Bulldogs fashioned out the victory in the presence of chief backer Hans Sy.
National U’s Troy Rosario was named Most Valuable Player and led the mythical team, which also included Nicol Bolos from Trinity University, John Marco Tayongtong from Emilio Aguinaldo College, Far Eastern U’s Anthony Hardgrove Jr., and John Daniel Flores of Olivarez.
NU assistant coach Joey Guanio was named best coach of the tournament.
University of the East, St. Paul’s College and Informatics International College also saw action in the tournament.
Perry Doroja of league sponsor Sandugo said they hope to expand the league outside Metro Manila and that they might organize help organize school volleyball and football tournaments.
