Chito Victolero is the new head coach of Star, which also recently traded its longtime franchise player.
The 40-year-old mentor is taking over the coaching reigns from from Jason Webb.
Star team manager Alvin Patrimonio confirmed the development with Victolero making his first appearance in the team’s practice Friday morning at Ronac Art Center.
The Hotshots started shaking up their roster Thursday when they traded away James Yap in exchange for Paul Lee in a blockbuster direct trade.
The Mapua standout last served as an assistant for playing coach Manny Pacquiao in Mahindra but was mainly in charge of the team until the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
He also previously held the head coaching post in Mapua from 2009 to 2012.
Webb, meanwhile, has been appointed as a team consultant after a dismal showing in the past season, where Star settled at the cellar and even failed to make the playoffs in the 2016 Governors’ Cup./rga
