Pomi rues errors in loss to Eczacibasi in FIVB tilt

Pomi Casalmaggiore’s head coach lamented his team’s sorry start in the FIVB Women’s Club Women’s Championship Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Giovanni Caprara said the team gave up a lot of free balls to the defending champions Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul resulting to the latter’s continuous attack on its defense.

“It was so bad because we made a lot of mistakes, the reception, we did not receive so well,” said Caprara, whose team is the defending champions of Europe. “We gave a lot of free balls.”

Eczacibasi Vitra capitalized on Pomi Casalmaggiore’s poor formm unleashing 34 scoring spikes and blocking 12 of the Italians’ attempts for easy points.

The defending champions also had six points via service aces.

Pomi Casalmaggiore managed only 25 scoring spikes against the Turkish club.

Team captain Valentina Tirozzi, who had six points in the loss, vowed they would be better in their next game against South American champions Rexona-Sesc Rio on Wednesday.

“They’re [Eczacibasi Vitra] is a super super strong team, today we didn’t do very well, so we’ll try to be better on the next game,” said Tirozzi.
