Cudiamat reaches 3rd round

Top seed Kevin Cudiamat disposed of HP’s JC Clarito, 23-25, 21-10, 21-13, yesterday to barge into the third round of the Bingo Bonanza National Open Badminton Tournament at CW Home Depot Ortigas in Pasig.

Cudiamat, main man of PBA Smash Pilipinas, will next take on Cris Sanchez of Team Prima/UST, who got through after defeating Niel Pineda, 16-21, 21-17, 21-18.

In other men’s singles results, fourth ranked Orlan Ticala of Team Prima routed Michael Saragena, 21-12, 21-14; Ateneo’s Carlo Remo eliminated Michael Clemente, 21-19, 21-10; and sixth-ranked Solomon Padiz Jr. beat Keoni Asuncion, 21-18, 21-16;

Wild card Christian Cuyno of National U also progressed after downing Jason Vanzuela, 21-13, 21-14, while Edwin Dodds of Letran/Calamba won by  walkover over No. 7 Emilio Mangubat Jr.

Also advancing was Adamson’s Mika Aquino in the women’s side after downing Ateneo’s Angela Ramos, 21-13. 15-21, 21-10.

Makisig Badminton’s Danica Bolos outlasted Clydel Pada of Adamson, 18-21, 21-15, 21-19, while Jellene de Vera of PBA Smash Pilipinas won by default over Cassandra Lim.

Action in mixed doubles, men’s and women’s doubles starts today with top seeds Alvin Morada and Alyssa Leonardo of  Pilipinas facing separate foes.
