FEU stays focused on UAAP bid amid Racela’s departure talks

While Far Eastern University is still in the thick of the UAAP title race, the school may be counting down the days of coach Nash Racela.

The soft-spoken mentor has reportedly been appointed as the new coach of TNT KaTropa in the PBA to replace coach Jong Uichico, leaving the Tamaraws without a head mentor for the coming seasons.

FEU athletic director Mark Molina said that finding replacements for the head coaching job is the least of the school’s concerns with Racela still expected to finish his obligations for the Tamaraws this season.

“Our focus is on Season 79. We will discuss next season when the current one is done,” he told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

FEU is currently sitting at second place with a 7-2 slate.

Racela recently inked a new three-year deal in Morayta after a triumphant three-year run, which saw him steer the school to a title last season.

Leading the list of possible replacements are longtime assistants Eric Gonzales and Josh Reyes and former FEU coach Bert Flores.
