Even Robert “Sonny” Jaworski sees a bright future ahead of Barangay Ginebra rookie Scottie Thompson.
Jaworski, Philippine basketball legend, was in attendance to watch his former team clinch the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup championship on Wednesday night.
The 70-year-old Jaworski also got to see Thompson in the flesh and he had nothing but praise for the 23-year-old guard and the Gin Kings squad.
“That fellow, obviously if he played better, they would be up by 10, 15 points but it’s fine because he’s there,” said Jaworski after Ginebra’s 91-88 win over Meralco. “He’s a young fellow and as long as they don’t change their attitude, their positive attitude, they have a bright future.”
“I can see that,” he said when asked if he sees Thompson having a great career ahead of him.
Thompson had 10 points, two assists and two steals in the title-clinching Game 6.
During halftime, Jaworski paid the Ginebra dugout a visit with the Gin Kings down 13. And shortly after his pep talk, Ginebra immediately found its way back into the game.
“That’s one for the books but I said it’s going to be a nice game. In fairness, there was no loser in that game. Both of them won because of their decorum and grit in doing their best for the public.
