Eczacibasi withstands Rexona-Sesc Rio to stay unscathed

Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul disposed of Rexona-Sesc Rio in five sets, 25-27, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11, to stay undefeated in the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship Thursday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The defending champions inched closer to the semifinals with a 2-0 record in Pool A while the South American champions slipped to 1-2.

“Today I’m really happy with the result, we played a tough match against a very very strong team and we won after playing not so good [in the first set],” said Eczacibasi head coach Massimo Barbolini. “After the first set we had many confusions but ut was important to believe we can win.”

“At the end we won.”

Tijana Boskovic, Eczacibasi’s 19-year-old phenom, unleashed 28 points on the defense of Rexona-Sesc biut it wasn’t only her who did the damage for the defending champions.

Tatiana Kosheleva and Jordan Larson-Burbach had 15 points apiece to help out Boskovic while Thaisa and Rachael Adams combined for 22.

Monique led Rexona-Sesc with 24 points while Gabi added 14.
