Eriobu, Banal catch Gavina’s eye
Coming off a confidence building third conference, all Mahindra coach Chris Gavina wants is to pounce on the hot streak for the upcoming PBA season.
And it all starts with the 2016 PBA Rookie Draft.
The Enforcers are expected to pick among the top half of the Gilas draft and owns the fourth pick in the regular draft.
“(Mac) Belo is the projected number one, but after him, nothing’s set in stone yet. We’ll just have to go to our think tank and discuss what are needs are,” he said.
But there are some players who have already made an impression based on their performance in 2016 Gatorade PBA Draft Combine.
“So far, there are a lot of sleepers that come to mind. I like the way Raphy Banal played today. (Joseph) Eriobu is a sleeper for us. These kind of talents can fall in our lap. Guys like that are opening my eyes on the possible fourth pick,” he said.
But the priority for the Enforcers at the moment is picking the players who will address their needs.
“Everybody’s looking for height, but I think it will come down on what we’d like to plug in our team and what the available talent still is there,” he said.
