DALLAS — Dirk Nowitzki will miss Dallas’ home opener against Houston with what coach Rick Carlisle described as a stomach ailment.

The 38-year-old, in his 19th season, played 38 minutes in an overtime loss to Indiana in the season opener on Wednesday. He missed the shootaround before Friday night’s game.

Carlisle wouldn’t commit to Nowitzki making the trip to Houston over the weekend. The Mavericks play the Rockets again Sunday in Houston’s home opener.

The coach said it appeared Nowitzki would play earlier Friday, “so this must be something that’s come around very quickly.”

Nowitzki had 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting and eight rebounds in the 130-121 loss to the Pacers.
