Tigresses, Lady Warriors dispute top seeding

Collegiate spirit against a pair of American imports.

This will take shape when University of Santo Tomas and Pocari Sweat dispute the leadership in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference today at Philsports Arena.

Coach Kungfu Reyes said UST, with nothing to lose, is motivated enough to face a club team with reinforcements in the 6 p.m. match.

“We are ready to face anybody for as long as we execute our plays, we don’t have to worry,” said Reyes, whose wards’ only defeat was dealt by Bureau of Customs.

On the last day of eliminations, the Tigresses and the Lady Warriors will be fighting for better placings in the semifinals.

One thing going for Pocari is its import-powered lineup that has keyed its five straight wins for a share of the top spot.

Breanna Mackie and Kay Kacsits have adapted to the Pocari system and worked around the local crew led by Michele Gumabao, Myla Pablo and Iris Tolenada.

But Pocari will have to deal with a solid UST team, starring EJ Laure, Marivic Meneses, Carla Sandoval, Pam Lastimosa, Chloe Cortez and Cherry Rondina.

BaliPure, also assured of a semifinal slot, takes on winless Coast Guard in the first match at 4 p.m.  At 4-2, the Water Defenders are expected to beat the Lady Dolphins.
